Carel Van der Heyden Real Estate

Carel is a recently retired Real Estate Professional having carried an impressive 50 year reign in the Industrial, Land and International Real Estate sectors. After having been employed by a Developer WM Zeckendorf, Carel joined Royal LePageReal Estate and sold Commercial and Industrial Properties, in Toronto. He also assisted in organizing the building of a shopping Centre and the development of a sub-division on behalf of a Real Estate client.

Building the foundation to his professional career with an education from Business School Nederland, Carel moved on to gain experience in the Finance Industry before finding his niche in Real Estate. At the start of his career Carel was asked by Dutch relatives, who had started a new import business, to act as manager.

With Leasehold Webb & Knapp, Carel commenced operations in Toronto, eventually making sales throughout Canada. In order to enhance the business and obtain new merchandise Carel traveled to Europe on a 1957 trip to Germany.

Accompanied by his partners Carel decided to visit Rome and see if he could meet Pope Pius XII, and had a private audience 3 days after he arrived. Carel recalls, "This was a very special moment for me." Carel goes on to state, "The other special moment in my life was when my daughter Susan and I visited Medjugorje in Yugoslavia where the Apparitions of the Virgin Mary were taking place."

During the last war Carel shares that he was "very active in the Dutch Underground, hiding Jewish people and providing them with food stamps and assisting Allied pilots to escape and transported them south towards France. When the Americans liberated the South of the Netherlands, I joined the 7th Armoured Infantry Division as an interpreter and fought with them in Meijel NL and later was with them in the Battle of Bastogne in Belgium and travelled all the way to Schwerin GER. When we crossed the Rhine at Remagen, I became interpreter of the Divisional Commander."

Later on in his career, Carel transitioned to Royal LePage as an Agent gaining diverse experience and building a regional reputation for success. Within his many roles at LePage, Carel specialized in shopping centers and subdivisions, serving as a key player throughout the entire sales process.

Carel is affiliated with the Community Association of Riding for Disabled, the Chamber of Commerce and serves as Chairman for the Dan Mills Community. In his free time, Carel enjoys playing tennis and golf.

He recently, organized entertainment in Toronto for 5000 sailors (“Sailor home for dinner”) by the population of Toronto and also arranged a Ball for all the officers of the NATO fleet at the Royal York Hotel. Prior to that the Debutantes of Toronto invited them for cocktails at their home. At the hotel they were introduced to the Governor General of Ontario. Three military bands provided music for the dance.
